The Hong Kong Society for Healthcare Mediation was established in 2015 by a group of doctors, dentists, nurses, administrators and other healthcare professionals to further the discipline of healthcare mediation. The Inaugural Dinner, held on 18th September 2015, was officiated by Dr KO Wing Man, BBS, JP (Secretary, Food & Health Bureau) and attended by Ms Christine CHEUNG (Law Officer (Civil Law), Department of Justice).
The Society supports the promotion of mediation in resolving disputes. In the healthcare field, such disputes often arise from misunderstanding and inadequate communication between the healthcare practitioner and the patient. In adverse events, mediation is a better approach than taking the legal route, and may be able to restore the relationship between the healthcare professional and the patient. The Society will actively promote mediation and training to professionals in healthcare and related fields.
